I love Ozzy, and no offense to him, but of corse he has headlined all of the Ozzfests, I'd say lots of people are actually tired of seeing him all the fucking time. I have actually never seen him. I've only been going to concerts since 2008 and I really wish I started earlier because Ozzy is still a must see before you die (or in this case before Ozzy dies)

Ozzfests main stage kicks the crap out of Mayhem's main stage...and there are some bands on the second stage that beat some of the bands on mayhems stage...

In the long run, it'll likely happen, although Mayhem then has a duty to not sell out. Ozzfest has been really consistent, and Mayhem hasn't really been consistent so far, although a trend hasn't developed yet. I don't think Ozzfest is going anywhere quite yet though.

I would love to see both tour each summer. Competition always makes things better. However I fear that Ozzfest is done. I think that is is going to fade into the distance and roll over for Mayhem. Mayhem will prob be the metal tour for the next 10 years or so till something dethrones it and it fades away.

I'll go to mayhem next year. I wanted to go to ozzfest because it might be the last one.

Ozzfest's main flaw was relying on Ozzy's draw in the long term. Now the guy is like 140 and no one really is there to see him. It's amazing it's worked for so long, but it won't soon.

As horrible as it sounds, Ozzfest probably won't make a comeback until Ozzy dies. Sharon headed up all those great lineups, and now I think Ozzy is just being lazy and holding her back (for the past three or so years). Plus I always heard they treat the bands like shit. Mayhem is looking pretty solid as of now, and even though their lineups don't compare to the greatness of the old Ozzfest lineups (keep in mind Ozzfest was the greatest traveling metal festival to ever take place in this country for an entire decade), right now it definitely seems like it has the upper hand on Ozzfest. Unless Ozzy gets his act straight, he's going to continue to lose ground. And the trend will go towards Mayhem. I'd say we'll know in the next two or so years.

YES. unless ozzy makes a comeback. I heard from several band interviews that the people who run Ozzfest (not ozzy himself) suck anyways. Not to mention that the ozzfest forum is full of douchebags, not that it really effects the actual concert. However, I think that it should change to "Monster Energy Mayhem Festival" lol because Monster > Rockstar in my opinion. obviously that will never happen though

If mayhem keeps giving mainstream limeups and doesn't put any heavy non mainstream bands then it will never take ozzfests place even if ozzfest stops

Agreed. I went to Hartford Mayhem Fest, and Ozzfest at the same venue in 20 some odd days. Then UPROAR the weekend after Ozzfest. Fucking great having all these fests so close together.

It already is taking the place of ozzfest. That's why Mayhemfest exists. Ozzfest hasn't had a real tour in 3 years, so obviously they're not gonna have a full tour in the future. Ozzy just can't do a full summer tour and they won't do a tour without him. So it already took the place of ozzfest in '08, '09, and this year since only a small portion of the country gets it in their area

Why does it need to "take its place". Why can't it be another great show? There are plenty of cities in North America to support multiple bad a** metal/rock shows. Don't worry about which ones "need to exist" just enjoy the ones you like and skip the ones you don't.

Ozzfest has always been better. If you look at a list of the bands that have played ozzfest, you'd probably agree. And besides, ozzfest has helped a lot of bands become more popular. Also a lot of bands that played ozzfest have went on to play mayhem but Ozzy wont be able to tour every summer pretty soon and when you take the ozz out of the fest, its just a fest so Mayhem will eventually take over because they dont bring back the headliner/coheadliner every year.
